The champions of the 2017 North Carolina Legal Feeding Frenzy, conducted by the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association in conjunction with North Carolina Feeding America Food Banks, were recognized on Monday, April 24, at the N.C. Bar Center.
N.C. Attorney General Josh Stein, honorary chair and a member of the NCBA, presented the awards.
Fisher Law, PLLC of Raleigh received the Attorney General’s Cup as the overall champion for the first time by contributing the most pounds of food per person. Shana Fisher accepted the trophy on behalf of her firm.
In the Solo Practitioner Division (1-10 employees), Mason Law Office, PLLC of Garner, a three-time recipient of the Attorney General’s Cup, prevailed. Tonya Mason accepted the award on behalf of her firm.
In the Small Firm Division (11-50 employees), Rose, Harrison & Gilreath, P.C. of Kill Devil Hills won for the fourth consecutive year. Peebles Harrison accepted the award on behalf of the firm. A driving force behind the establishment of the food drive in North Carolina, Harrison also provided his perspective on how the YLD adopted the project five years ago based on a similar endeavor in Virginia.
In the Medium Firm Division (51-100 employees), Blanco Tackabery & Matamoros, PA of Winston-Salem was the winner for the third time.
In the Large Firm Division (101 employees and up), Moore & Van Allen PLLC, with North Carolina offices in Charlotte and the RTP, became the Legal Feeding Frenzy’s only five-time division champion. Tristan Fuierer accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
The Wake Forest University School of Law captured the Law School Division for the fourth consecutive year. Meredith Pace, a third-year law student, accepted the award on behalf of the law school.

In the Corporate/In-House Division, InVentiv Health, Inc. repeated as champion in this the second year of the category. The Office of the U.S. Bankruptcy Administrator, Middle District of North Carolina prevailed for the first time in the Public Interest Division, which was also initiated last year.

The most food was contributed by Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice for the fifth consecutive year. David Boaz and Anna Short-Slighton accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
R. Bryan Norris Jr. of Sharpless & Stavola in Greensboro chaired the YLD Legal Feeding Frenzy Committee once again this year.

“The North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Legal Feeding Frenzy Committee wishes to thank all the attorneys, paralegals, law students and staff members who participated in the competition to help feed ‘food insecure’ North Carolinians,” Norris said.
“Through your efforts, 87 teams across 54 firms and around the state raised over 300,000 pounds of food to benefit our state’s Feeding America Food Banks.”
